Leaders as Decision Makers

By : DSY

One of the most important task of a leader was to determine what's best for organization and their members. But in making decisions, sometimes even leaders face the dilemma and seemed at a crossroads. Moreover, if the choice was made you have to sacrifice the interests of others or a risk that will be detrimental to the team. But sometimes hard decisions must be taken in order to realize a common goal. Sometimes leaders apparently took a wrong decision and harming the organization. But trust me to make mistakes in decision-making is still better than not doing any action at all.

Speed and accuracy of a leader in making decisions typically become the benchmark of competence and credibility it has. If the leader is slow and hesitant in acting, men will see you as being indecisive, fearful, and not firm so make them question your ability and even lose confidence in you.

Accustomed to fast in decision making is not an easy job, need a ratio that is clear and sharp intuition in order to make the right decision. But that does not mean those skills can not be honed and sharpened. Here are some ways that can be done in order to be a good decision maker:

1. Conquer the fear of making mistakes.
Fear is an obstacle and an enemy to success. Afraid to make decisions to the detriment of the organization is one of the causes for delay and even choose not to decide at all. In fact if you could, he would throw out this responsibility to someone else. Get rid of your fear by always remembering that each process in making decisions is a step that will help to mature the character and honed intuition. Remember that fear can make you lose the opportunity.

2. Sharpening the problem-solving abilities you.
Wrong decisions is not always caused by one vote or a bad choice. Common mistakes that made it originated from the inaccuracy of the leader in identifying problems that occur. If the problem alone is not true, so the solution will certainly not on target. Therefore, make sure you know in detail the problems that occur, gather information and complete data, and berorientasilah on solutions.

3. Set deadlines.
It takes time to identify the issues decided. Many factors affect this process. But if you need a leader who many considerations, and even tends indecisive, so make deadlines for yourself so as not to linger too long in the phase of analysis. Do not let your time be wasted if the time you decide something that was already too late.

4. Back up your decisions with data, and support from co-worker.
When announcing the decision make sure you hold on to information and accurate data. This is what will help you when there is an argument. Also involve other parties in the decision making process so you can input and suggestions. This way you automatically invite them to commit.

5. Regardless of the outcome, be firm with your decision.
Rectify or retract the decision that you just remove the insistence of those who feel harmed or doubt from within yourself will only make you look wishy-washy and indecisive. Therefore, think back to the various reactions that may be shown by your team members or colleagues. Do not forget to monitor the implementation of that decision as part of the responsibility for decision-makers. Do not forget the monitor to ensure the results according to expectations. Do not hesitate to make adjustments if necessary.
