What a JOB Really Means

By : Rikk Rico

Having a job is normal in today's society.

As a matter of fact, most of us were raised up and trained to prepare for work after we graduate. We spend a majority of lives getting good grades in school, then moving on to college and taking the course of our choice (or our parents' choice), then heading out to the world and finding the best employer who could hire us for our skills, talents and abilities.

Some of us find fulfillment in what we do - in the occupation we have or the profession we hold, but still need to tackle with financial problems in a monthly basis. Some graduate in a specific course, but land in a place where they're not comfortable with, but have to be, because of the immediate monetary rewards (e.g. call center industry). Soon they get comfortable, but because they got used to receiving this much big of a salary, getting fired or losing their job becomes a great concern.

It is for this reason most people view their job as their security. Their financial security.

But being financially secure is different from being financially free.

Actually, there is no such thing as job security, as anything could possibly arise and happen and tomorrow you'd be out of work. That's why people in the corporate workplace struggle and fight for the attention of their bosses and top managers - to ensure that their work is noticed and their spot is secured. But even that isn't a guarantee.

Here's the deal. A job is simply a short term solution to a long term problem. And for that matter, many only take care of their short term problems, but refuse to pay attention to their long term ones.

A classic example is your monthly bills. That is short term. Your weekly expenses. That is short term. But few really take the time to consider at a young age, issues such as retirement, continuing cashflow, and making money work for them instead of them working for money for the rest of their economical lives.

Don't get me wrong. It's important to live one day at a time. And to trust God to provide for your daily needs.

But that same God has also given us the capacity to diligently plan our lives and use the wisdom He has given to us in a responsible manner. There are many Bible characters in fact, who lived in faith, trusting God, but at the same time lived in abundance and prosperity.

It is possible, but it starts with having the proper mindset.
