People looking to work in the travel industry may find that some course offered in colleges may not relate directly to the field that one is interested in. Travel and tourism course can be studied in colleges and universities, which focus on a general perspective of the travel industry and travel agency. The travel and tourism industry has risen since in the last few years, with more people gaining access into detailed training courses and finding courses that will enable them to work in their chosen sector.
One of the courses offered for qualifications in the travel industry is the IATA training (International Air Transport Association). This training course comprises of different modules that include the business of travel and tourism industry, travel planning, hotels, airfares, essentials in air transport, customer service and many more. These courses are divided into different levels, based on the level that the student/individual wants to work up towards.
The IATA training is the most comprehensive, structured, detailed and complete form of training for people wanting to work in this industry. The different levels can include the Foundation course, which focuses on training junior level students. This course will allow the student to learn more about the travel and tourism industry, The role of the travel professional, use of technology in the travel industry and customer service.
The next step is the intermediate or consultant and management levels. These require the students to have completed the Foundation level, or have had gained at least two years experience in the industry. This is principally designed for people to learn how to communicate and manage staff, developing strategies, organising and planning trips, understand the market trends and becoming familiar with the challenges and changes of the IT system in the industry.
People that study the management level of the IATA training tend to be at a more advanced level and should aim to work their way up towards studying for the advanced or senior management level of the course. This part of the training focuses on various different aspects of the industry, such as developing a solid business plan, understanding the rules, regulations and the law which have an impact on the travel industry and managing staff who make direct contact with clients and customers.
You will be given the option to take on a work experience placement, as well as take up training in Computer Reservation Systems. All of these modules play an important part in this competitive and ever changing field. More people are becoming interested in working within the travel industry, making courses more expensive and selective over their candidates.
